SO that's it for me.

"The Juice" has been well and truly squeezed and its delicious liquids all but completely consumed.

This Friday afternoon I will walk out of the back door of the newsroom, walk down a long and dim hallway that stinks of fresh paint and then, assuming I'm organised, I will probably never again walk into the Daily Mercury as a journalist.

This Saturday I will put my backpack and my little computer into my silver car and drive to Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, where I will have a quiet sit down with my girlfriend Bianca and sip a cup of tea.

On Monday I will be the newest recruit at the Sunshine Coast Daily, sitting alongside former Mercury stars including health reporter Bianca Clare and agent provocateur Mark Bode, whose column I replaced more than 12 months ago.

I landed in Mackay in July 2007 and I dreaded coming back. I'd been gone for about five years and had attended university in Brisbane and met a crew of friends.

Then my phone rang at the end of my second-last semester, with editor David Fisher and deputy Jennifer Pomfrett there to interview me. …
