Competition 'Failure' Inspires Bodybuilder to Greater Success

WHEN Toowoomba body builder David Mills is low on inspiration all he has to do is watch a video of his first competition.

The video is far from an ego trip for Mills, however, who admits that first experience was so bad it spurs him on to work harder at his sport.

"I have a DVD of that first competition. It is my inspiration to do better," Mills said.

"I think one of the hardest parts of the whole sport is posing. It is very hard to look natural."

Mills didn't take long to move on from his initial reservations about flexing in public, rising to the top of his sport over the past two years.

From a casual gym junkie arose an Australian champion, soon to be a world champion if everything goes to plan over the next 12 months.

Mills, 50, surprised himself at the NABBA/WFF Australian Championships at the weekend where he won the Over 35 Mr Athletic title and qualified for the 2009 World Championships in Germany on October 31. …
