New Generation Are in Line-Up for Music Fest

AMI Williamson might have grown up with a country music singer but classical music was the path she initially chose to tread.

"I studied opera and classical music for many years, including at the conservatorium of music in Sydney, but I figured what I really wanted to do was write songs," the 29-year-old daughter of country legend John Williamson said.

"With my classical training I have a different musical background from Dad but there are certainly elements of country music in what I do-plus some folk and pop, maybe roots."

What she does is not readily pigeonholed but on stage it all comes together in the form of an entertaining one-woman show packed with her own songs.

"I've been trying to develop my skills as an entertainer, which is why I do a one-woman show - I want to stand strong on my own," Ami said.

So well in fact that she's recently done two tours of duty along with Angry Anderson performing for Australian troops in Solomon Islands, Iraq and Afghanistan. …
