THE opening of Ongmac Motorcycle Centre has been a long-term ambition of the Marsh family (owners of Ongmac trading Pty Ltd) and a life-long passion for Alec Marsh to own his own motorcycle business.

Alec's passion for motorcycles started in 1956, when, at just seven years old, he jumped on the back of his father's BSA Bantam motorcycle and the two set off on a tour to visit every lighthouse keeper on the coast of England.

Alec's father had been a ship's captain during World War II who had made friends with the lighthouse keepers via radio, but had never met any of them in the flesh.

So, when he was back on dry land, he and Alec made the trip to personally thank the keepers who had helped him with safe passage during the war.

After that momentous trip, Alec and his family immigrated to Tasmania.

With his passion ignited by the BSA Bantam trip, Alec purchased his first motorcycle, a Royal Enfield, when he was nine years old, and has never been without a motorcycle since. …
