Retail Stores Expect a Bumper Christmas; Shoppers Will Put the Global Financial Crisis Behind Them

RETAILERS in Ipswich are optimistic shoppers will put the global financial crisis behind them and will spend big this Christmas holiday season.

Although the Christmas decorations are about a month away, Booval Fair Shopping Centre marketing manager Jessica Pagano said retailers were already busy preparing for a strong Christmas campaign.

"There is a lot of optimism around and we're expecting a good Christmas period," she said.

"Just in these past school holidays there were a lot of people around, so hopefully we can keep that going over the Christmas period.

"At the moment we're still trading quite well - I don't think it's hit us as hard as it has in other areas."

Redbank Plaza Shopping Centre promotions manager Brent Campbell said shops at his complex were similarly confident of a big Christmas trading period.

"At the moment it's really quite exciting here, everyone is firing on all cylinders preparing for Christmas trading," Mr Campbell said. …
