UNSURE why they were attacked on Saturday night, Gympie couple Brandon and Anne are still coming to terms with being victims of an unprovoked bashing.

The couple, who wished to keep their last names undisclosed for fear of repercussions, said they were walking home from Billy's Hotel and had made it up to the ANZ Bank along Mary Street when two men approached them.

Brandon, 26, said the men started an argument and then said "we're both gonna jump ya."

"You've got no chance."

He said if it wasn't for fiance Anne he'd be "in pretty bad shape".

There was no attempt to rob the couple and Anne was punched in the head about four times during the alleged assault.

The couple had been at a wedding on Saturday and were heading home about midnight.

Anne, 23, tried to phone for help when the men started attacking Brandon, but they grabbed her phone and threw it away.

They then gave her "a couple" of punches and told her to leave.

When the alleged attackers got Brandon to the ground and started kicking him, Anne grabbed one of their legs. The attacker then turned on her and punched her four times straight in the face.

Brandon said there was nothing he could do as he was still fighting with the other attacker.

Luckily four or five men heard the couple's cries for help, broke up the fight and called the police.

Brandon said while the men had him on the ground they kicked him, from the knees up to the head.

His face and head was swollen and he had a deep purple mark on his back where one of the attackers bit him.

At Gympie Hospital Anne had four stiches put in above her right eyebrow and has bruising and swelling all over her face.

Both agree the alleged attack has changed their way of life and they will never walk home again.

Anne said the attackers were both "disgusting excuses for human beings". …
