GOLF: Oakwood Park Golf Club owner David Chivers was looking for a "people person" to take over the reins at his course, and members have already confirmed that he has found the right man in Jeff Barany.

"He's very approachable, and we are happy with his manner and so are the members. We've had good reports already," Chivers said of the new club's new golf professional.

Barany started his professional career in Michigan, USA, where he briefly toured before finding greener pastures.

"I was on the tour for a little while, but Tiger Woods was a little too good. He was winning all the money and then I realised that going into the business side of things was the way to go," Barany said.

The pro, his wife Rachel and three youngsters Sebastian, Ned and Tucker were running the operation in Ayr for the past two years, until the affable Barany caught wind of Chivers' desire to stand aside.

Chivers hired another professional two years ago, but the handover did not go as planned and Chivers stepped back into the fray a year later. …
