PENNY Kerslake will not have a chance to sleep in tomorrow.

She will be up at 5am in her Wurtulla home, watching the early stages of Australia versus New Zealand in the 2009 Four Nations rugby league tournament live from London.

While plenty of proud league-loving Australians will be doing the same, Ms Kerslake will be brimming with pride for her son who will be on the playing field, singing the national anthem.

Her classically-trained opera singer son Ben has been asked to sing Advance Australia Fair at the tournament opener.

Ben didn't grow up on the Sunshine Coast but has spent time in the area visiting his mum and Ray, his dad, but lately he has been living in England and perfecting his opera singing.

Ms Kerslake was ecstatic yesterday, talking about her son singing in front of the world.

"It's absolutely brilliant," she said.

"He's a tenor so he has a beautiful pitch in his voice.

"I'll be so excited, I'll be elated. …
