LORIK Cana has promised he will not change his combative style of play despite the threat of suspension hanging over him, writes STUART RAYNER.

As manager Steve Bruce predicted this summer, the Albanian has been an instant hit on Wearside thanks to an aggressive style which has won plenty of plaudits and prompted rumours of interest from Arsenal, the club who offered him a trial when he was a teenager.

Ten games into his Sunderland career, Cana already has four bookings, leaving him one away from a one-match ban.

Resigned to the fact suspension seems inevitable, Bruce has told his captain to carry on regardless, which is music to Cana's ears.

Cana said: "I am not the first player to be on four yellow cards, I will not change my game. I don't care, it is not something important."

Suspensions for cautions take seven days to come into effect, meaning if Cana is booked against Birmingham City at St Andrews tomorrow he would miss next week's Premier League game at home to West Ham United.

Cana produced an outstanding second-half performance against Liverpool last week after George McCartney's illness forced a half-time reshuffle. While Bruce was gushing in his praise for the 26-year-old's performance in his old position,

Lee Cattermole's knee injury is likely to see Cana restored to midfield in the Midlands. Although Cana is a regular at the back for Albania, he revealed he had never so much as trained there with Sunderland. "I have played there before, it is not a new position for me," he said matter-off actly. "I have a lot of experience in the centre of defence for my national team and sometimes for my previous club Marseille. "However, it was the first time I have played there for Sunderland. "It was not easy of course, but the manager decided to put me in there and I tried to use my experience in that position. …
