He Drove off from Crash Scene on One Good Tyre

TIMOTHY Sticklan left the scene of a crash in Sydney Street and drove for several kilometres with three flat tyres.

The 18-year-old later told police he panicked but at the time a number of concerned road-users alerted police to the potential danger of Sticklan's driving.

Sticklan pleaded guilty in the Mackay Magistrate's Court yesterday to driving without due care and attention on August 22.

It was 5.15pm and police were called to a two-vehicle traffic accident at an intersection along Sydney Street at South Mackay, prosecutor Sergeant Sabine Scott said.

Police were told by witnesses that one of the vehicles had extensive damage, including three flat tyres, but the driver had taken off from the scene.

Police then received a number of complaints from various drivers and were able to trace the vehicle to a private residence at Bridge Road.

However, Sticklan was not there.

He was located later at the Mt Pleasant Tavern. …
