THEY may be embarking on another long year, but prospects like teenager Dylan Masters help Pottsville Cricket Club stalwarts feel a whole lot better about the future.

Having made no secret about the fact that they are in the process of rebuilding, Pottsville officials have no illusions about their 2009-10 LJ Hooker League prospects.

Pottsville were hammered in their opening round contest away to Lismore Workers and look set for another flogging after a disappointing start to their Round Two encounter with Terranora.

However, the club has no intentions of letting this year go to waste.

They want to develop the talent they have coming through like Masters and be a considerable force by season's close.

"We're looking to the future," captain Nick Watt said.

"Last year was a terrible one and this year hasn't started much better but that is often the case when a team is rebuilding.

"We have a lot of new guys already and possible some more to come so we basically have a new team and it's going to take a while until things start to click.

"We have some really good young blokes coming through and hopefully we can build on a few things for next season.

"Our aim is to be a lot more competitive towards the end of the season."

With Seabreeze Oval looking pristine, Watt won the toss on Saturday and sent his men into bat.

However, the move backfired with only three players registering double figures as the home side were embarrassingly toppled for just 76.

"We just didn't do anything with the bat," Watt said.

"The pitch looked really brilliant so we wanted to bat first but we didn't make the most of it.

"Their strike guys got the ball swinging and they did some damage early."

While the Pottsville batsmen had struggled the bowlers, including 15-year-old Masters, were quick to find their rhythm. …
