JUNE Canavan's life was marked by her capacity to give, and yesterday friends and former patients of the late Maroochydore GP gathered at Cotton Tree Park to remember her.

The Klocking up the Ks Fun Day in the Park gave people a chance to reminisce about Dr Canavan, whose life was tragically cut short when the plane she was travelling in crashed in the highlands of Papua New Guinea on August 11.

Dr Canavan, 59, and close friend and fellow Sunshine Coast resident Keith Gracie died along with 11other people while en route to walk the Kokoda Trail as part of her attempt to raise money for the St Jude's Orphanage in Tanzania.

She had planned to raise $50,000 for the cash-strapped orphanage by completing five sponsored mountain treks - Kiel Mountain, Mount Kosciusko, Mount Kinabalu, the Kokoda Track and Mount Kilimanjaro.

When she died, she had completed the first three of her Klocking up the Ks peaks and raised about $20,000.

Friends of the doctor have subsequently staged a number of fundraising events to take the total to more than $80,000. …
