Cash Flow Needed to Save Creek

SUPPORTERS of the effort to rehabilitate the sickly Moneys Creek fear for its future if funding cannot be found.

Moneys Creek Rehabilitation Group chair Mike Rennie said his group was still in talks with Bundaberg Regional Council about funding for the rehabilitation project.

"We need to put in a silt trap at Hughes Road and also put in silt traps on all the pipes which lead into the lagoon, as well as more holes in the causeway," he said.

The group was also working with BMT WBM hydrology experts to determine the best way forward.

"The hydrologists are preparing a report of what to do first to get the best bang for our buck," he said.

Bundaberg Regional Councillor Greg Barnes said the council was willing to help but was in the "early stages" of discussions.

"We recognise there is a problem and the community believes it needs to be fixed. We will do what we can to maintain (the creek) and prevent fish kills but at the end of the day the problem is long-term and needs a solution," Cr Barnes said. …
