Death Crash Truck Had Broken Down; Motor Cut out, Inquest Told

A TRUCK involved in a fatal accident at Witta three years ago had broken down only hours beforehand, an inquest was told yesterday.

Kenilworth dairy farmer Cecil McIntyre told the inquest at the Caloundra courthouse that the truck broke down half-way through unloading grain into his silo about 3pm on September 25.

Truck driver Paul Gerard Joseph Robinson, 50, of Peachester, was killed when the truck rolled on the Maleny-Kenilworth Road, 12km from Maleny, about 8.30pm that evening.

Mr McIntyre said that the motor of the Woodlands feed truck, which had been driven by another driver that afternoon, cut out and attempts by himself and the driver to restart it by topping up the low fuel levels failed.

He said Woodlands sent two mechanics to fix the truck but he did not hear what had caused the problem.

The inquest earlier heard that devices within the truck showed it had dropped in speed and revolutions a minute before the accident. …
