CHRIS HUGHTON is banking on the return of Danny Simpson at Bramall Lane.

The on-loan Manchester United full-back missed out on the 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers yet Hughton has had defensive problems mounting up in recent times.

Now with the Coca-Cola Championship battle with Sheffield United certain to hand Newcastle one of their most physical challenges yet, Hughton is relying on some of his stars to return from the treatment room.

Fabricio Coloccini, suffering with a groin injury, was hoping to be back for Doncaster and, as reported in last night's Chronicle, Steven Taylor, currently getting over a hamstring problem, is facing a battle to be fit.

And with the prospect of Zurab Khishanishvili missing the game with a ban, Hughton has had to mull over the defensive options he has left.

He told the Chronicle: "Danny has been missing with an ankle injury which recurred from when we played Plymouth earlier in the season at St James's Park. …
