After a week off to study what's gone wrong with my NFL picks, I'm back with the knowledge that 2-2 just isn't going to cut it. Here are the picks, for entertainment purposes only, of course.

Green Bay (minus 8) at Cleveland: Browns receiver Josh Cribbs was once the best-kept secret in the NFL, but not anymore. Cribbs is the only reason to second-guess this pick, but Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Grant will be too much to handle. I'll take the Packers and give the points.

Indianapolis (minus 13) at St. Louis: It's usually a bad idea to take a road favorite and lay more than 10 points. Taking a home 'dog with a lot of points is in the Betting 101 guidebook, but St. Louis is so bad I can't do it. I'll take the Colts and lay the points.

Atlanta (plus 4) at Dallas: The Cowboys are somehow still overrated. More amazing is that Atlanta coach Mike Smith and his Falcons are still underrated after what they've done in their first 21 games together (11-5 in 2008 and 4-1 to start 2009). They won a game with plenty of big hits last week against Chicago. The Falcons might win outright, but I'll take the points just to be sure.

Philadelphia (minus 7) at Washington: I'm taking another big road favorite here, but this is a mad Eagles' squad after the loss to the Raiders. Washington, meanwhile, is a team in disarray. I'm not expecting any "Win one for the Zorn" chants. Take the Eagles minus the points.

Picking the winners straight up: Patriots, Colts, Vikings, Texans, Packers, Chargers, Jets, Panthers, Bills, Falcons, Saints, Giants, Eagles. …
