CHRIS HUGHTON today returned to the training field and insisted there was no time to celebrate being handed the manager's post - with Sheffield United the only thing on his mind.

The Toon gaffer will be handed a cash boost in January, with part of the pounds 20m of Mike Ashley's money going into the transfer kitty - but Hughton warned it is the "here and now" that is the most important to him.

Hughton - who won Coca-Cola Championship manager of the month awards for August and September - has led United back to the top of the second tier of English football, but knows the Magpies could go into the clash at Bramall Lane on Monday under pressure to reclaim top spot.

And with Middlesbrough fans still delighted by the arrival of Gordon Strachan, the Teessiders have now been identified as major rivals for one of the three Premier League places up for grabs in May.

Hughton told the Chronicle: "Sheffield United and Monday night are the main things on my mind at the moment. …
