THE shock news this week for all us armchair critics is that Barbara Windsor is set to call time as pub landlady Peggy Mitchell.

What will we do without her? No matter how bad a day you've had at work, your problems will never be as bad as hers.

She's ruled that Square with a fist of iron but with a good heart.

There was Grant and Phil. Just think of the trouble they've caused. I never forgave Grant for running over Tiffany.

And Phil. Well, he's been in and out of prison and had affairs with just about everyone.

And she's had her fair share of heartache. Who can forget Frank Butcher and all the Pat saga? Her 15-year stint has turned her into one of soapland's matriarchs.

We'll miss her yelling "Get outta my pub," at just about everyone. And her twin sets, beady eyes and her spats. How will the soap survive without her? And moving from one dysfunctional family to another, we now have a brand new comedy called Modern Family and I have to say it is riveting stuff. …
