YOUR recent coverage of transport issues in our area brings into question the wisdom of the priorities in the much published Tees Metro.

I believe the money should be spent as follows: * To rebuild the railway to Guisborough as soon as possible. Much of the town's housing is near the line and parkway "stations" at Nunthorpe bypass and perhaps Pinchinthorpe could take significant pressure off Marton Road. Especially if some local entrepreneur began a connecting bus service from Stokesley and Great Ayton to these stations.

The line will need a much better service than the current one at Nunthorpe, of course, and probably the line would need to be a double track, as it was until a decade or so back, but it could all be done for less than building a bypass and be vastly better for the environment.

* Put passenger trains back on the freight line to Boulby. It goes past most of the East Cleveland towns and again local buses could connect Lingdale, Boosbeck, Hinderwell and Staithes to the line, especially if the trains ran to a "parkway" at Boulby. …
