Don't Rain on Our Parade; Bacon-and-Egg Burger Brekkie to Start off Show

ORGANISERS of the 109th annual Murwillumbah Show this morning are bound to cast anxious eyes to the sky, hoping forecast rain overnight will clear quickly.

The show was due to get underway with a 6am bacon-and-egg burgers breakfast for showground campers who include many of the side-show alley ride operators, horse enthusiasts and volunteer workers.

The gates are scheduled to open at 9.30am with thousands of school kids expected to take part in excursions to look at the educational displays and take part in the inter-schools relay offering cash prizes for the schools to come first, second and third.

Rain has traditionally affected the show although Spring is the driest time of the year in the Tweed. Last year, however, the show's organisers had a reprieve.

"Last year was good," said show secretary Liz Chauvier yesterday.

"We are hoping the rain will clear. Showers tonight just to make everything greener and make it clean and fresh - that's what we have got on order. …
