A WOMAN has been ordered to pay $12,000 to her friend's ex-girlfriend after she admitted punching her in the face in an Ipswich pub.

Her 20-year-old victim had recently broken up with her boyfriend and was drinking with friends at the hotel on December 12 last year.

Ipswich District Court heard her ex-partner and his friends, including Sarah Jean Danks, were drinking at the same pub.

Danks, a meat worker, walked up to her victim on the dance floor of the Hotel Metropole and punched her in the mouth, knocking a tooth out.

Crown Prosecutor Kathleen Christopherson said comments were made earlier that night to the victim that her ex was "going to get her hit".

Ms Christopherson said the victim was standing on the dance floor speaking to a friend about 11.30pm when Danks, 20, tapped her on the shoulder.

Danks then punched the woman in the mouth, knocking her to the floor.

"She couldn't close her mouth properly and her teeth felt jagged - she had pain to her jaw and could taste blood in her mouth," Ms Christopherson said. …
