A GOLD Coast lawyer will be on hand in Coolangatta tomorrow to offer a will service to raise funds for the Australian Red Cross.

Southport-trained trainee law- yer Maria Pallagi will donate her time at the Red Cross Wills Day to help residents make a will or ask questions about the process.

Red Cross donor relations co- ordinator Kathy Smythe said the Red Cross started the day for awareness, as many people did not realise how important it was to have a will.

"People are sometimes scared of making a will because they think it is planning for the end, but it's like wearing a seatbelt - you don't put it on because you are going to crash the car, it's just a safety precaution," Ms Smythe said.

She said the Wills Day initiative began 10 years ago when the Red Cross helped a Gold Coast family.

"The father died with no will and the family had to deal with their grief as well as the devastation of all the problems of not having a will. …
