Rocky Misses Bulk of Central Qld Rain

THE rain gods must be crazy.

Rockhampton copped the brunt of the bushfires and now the land is bare and burnt and desperate for water.

But we have seen the least of the rainfall in the region over night.

And we will get even less as the clouds disappear over the next few days.

Bureau forecaster Mike Marrinan said most of the heavy rain falls to 9am yesterday morning were close to the coast or well inland.

The Capricorn Coast received the heaviest rainfall with Byfield recording 84mm.

Rockhampton airport only received 1.4mm in the same period and a further 0.4mm throughout the day.

Mr Marrinan said Rockhampton would be left with more isolated showers and storms over the next few days as the clouds were likely to taper off early today. But he did say there could be some afternoon showers and isolated storms, with the activity decreasing by the end of the week.

"We've hardly had anything here," he said.

South Yaamba received 12mm while western towns like Moranbah received 15mm. …
