Cathedral Project Builds Its Own Stairway to Heaven

Article excerpt

THERE'S a cathedral that's sure all that glitters is God and it's buying a stairway to heaven.

Well, kind of.

Anyone driving down William Street recently would have seen the scaffolding around one of the towers of St Joseph's Cathedral (right).

Photographer Allan Reinikka snapped a picture this week that made the steps look a little reminiscent of Led Zeppelin's hit song from the 70s, Stairway to Heaven.

The scaffolding is part of the cathedral's restoration and the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton is appealing for donations to help restore the beautiful building.

You can support the project by visiting the website www.cathedralappeal.org.au (http://www.cathedralappeal.org.au) or calling 4931 3637.

The cost to restore the cathedral will be about $6 million.
