COFFS Harbour MP Andrew Fraser has called a community meeting tomorrow to discuss the drainage problems in the Coffs Harbour local government area.

Mr Fraser told The Advocate he is not looking to apportion blame, but feels it is clear that development over the past 35 years has increased the rate of run off and as a result many homes and small businesses are being flooded due to inadequate drainage.

"For example, Harbour Drive in the old mall section has been raised over a number of years, Park Avenue car park has been constructed and roads have been closed," he said.

"This has meant that where roads previously took an overflow of water, this is no longer possible.

"I don't believe the pipes that were installed at the time are capable of taking the rainfall events that we have had this year, which are very similar to rainfall events we had 30 years ago.

"Several flood studies have been completed since 1978 to the present but I don't believe any have been acted upon. …
