FROM 50m behind, Samantha Groom from the Gympie Amateur Athletics Club receives the baton in the medley relay.

The under 13 competitor sprints the 800m to finish 50m in front, winning the race for her team and qualifying for state titles next month.

This and other stories of triumph were witnessed on a hot windy day in Kingaroy at the recent Regional Relay.

Vice-president of the Gympie Amateur Athletics Club Leslie O'Connor said there were some excellent results on the day.

She said 30 athletes qualified to compete at state titles in Brisbane from both track and field events.

aAll 57 children did amazingly...the club is very proud,a she said.

Three records were broken for regional junior discus on the day.

Kaden McClintock and Matthew Hurrell beat previous under 11 boy's record of 38.8m trowing 50.59m.

Under 15 girls Tankia McClintock and Hannah Ross broke the 42.62m mark with 54.30m; and Under 17 boys Joshua Bull and Codaey Bramm beat the previous record holder of 71. …
