Boro Would Benefit from Another Loan Signing. There Is a Guy Called Tuncay Not Getting a Start. THE WHISTLE BLOWER

THANK goodness for the Championship, where even after Boro's recent run of one point in nine we are only two points off a play-off place.

The top two, Newcastle and West Brom, have pulled away from the pack and while still catchable, the lottery of the play-offs is more than likely to be Boro's best chance of promotion It has always been seen as imperative that we bounce straight back as the financial consequences of not doing so are too serious to even contemplate.

And, despite the home form not being acceptable, we were one point off the top of the table when the chairman decided that it was time for a change in October.

I was one who believed that Gareth Southgate could get us back up, but that is now history.

When only one point off the top of the table, perhaps only fine tuning is needed.

A new manager, of course, brings with him new ideas and new players and both take time to gel.

Last Saturday against Forest we were very fortunate to get away with a point. The old failings of a lack of creativity in midfield and no obvious goal threat up front were there for all to see.

Presumably January may see new faces but they will also need time to settle. Gordon Strachan has suggested he will stick with what he has got until the window opens but Boro would certainly benefit from another loan signing to liven up the midfield. There is a guy called Tuncay in the Potteries not getting a start. That may be a no-go but how we need his enthusiasm and invention.

Over the last few seasons I have seen this weekend's opponents at both Darlington and Hartlepool. …
