IT has been a big week for teen sailor Jessica Watson.

She has caught a fish, tackled rough seas and is counting down the nautical miles to Cape Horn.

Buderim schoolgirl Jess, 16, is attempting to become the youngest person to sail around the world solo and unassisted.

In a blog entry on Friday Jess said she was making good progress and her yacht, Ella's Pink Lady, was flying.

aHeeled over, under full sail and throwing water everywhere, Ella's Pink Lady has been flying along today. It can't just be me that's busting to get south,a Jess said.

aThe wind has come round to the east a little more, meaning that we've been able to ease off the wind a little, making life a little more comfortable and reach along directly south.a

After marking a journey milestone when she crossed the equator on November 19, Jess said she hoped to reach the aEverest of the sailing worlda, Cape Horn, by the first week of January.

aOur great circle route or the fastest way to get to the Cape is to sail south and then gently arc over to the east,a she said. …
