Mariners Set to Tackle Season's Grand Finale

THE FRASER Coast Mariners have been the team to beat in the Bundaberg spring rugby union competition - and now there is only one team standing in the way of grand final glory after the Mariners beat Wests Barbarians 29-5 in their semi final on Friday night.

The Alloway Falcons caused something of an upset on Friday night, beating the more favoured East Coast Buccaneers 12-8 in what was a closely fought match. The Bundaberg team will now face the Mariners in the grand final.

Mariners player Stephen Shine said that while the team was thrilled to be through to the grand final they weren't getting ahead of themselves and knew there was still much work yet to be done.

The team goes into the grand final undefeated after seven weeks of competition but that will be no excuse for complacency, with the team determined to play with as much discipline as they have shown during the competition.

The team will train on Wednesday night and they will use the training session to get into the right mindset to play the grand final, Shine said. …
