Rosicky Urges Team-Mates to Step Up after Falling Short

TOMAS ROSICKY has told his Arsenal team-mates they must show more character to save their season, writes Simon Johnson.

Arsenal's second Premier League defeat in a row has left them 11 points behind Chelsea and in danger of being sucked into a battle just to finish in the top four.

The Gunners midfielder admits the team were not good enough against Sunderland and Chelsea but says they cannot use the absence of injured key striker Robin van Persie as an excuse.

"The next match is vital," he said.

"After a defeat like this, you need to have a good reaction, if not it will be even more difficult.

"It will be very difficult to win the title now, we know that. But [to let the season fall apart now] would be the biggest mistake we can make. The only thing you can do is carry on and try your best again.

"It is difficult with Robin out but I thought this game was the chance for other players to step in. …
