Tests Allay Fears over Young Injury

HEAD injury victim Micky Young is not as seriously injured as first feared on Friday night.

Newcastle Falcons scrumhalf Young was stretchered off in the final minute of his side's 28-8 Kingston Park defeat to Northampton Saints.

After a clash of heads Young was laid prostrate on the Kingston Park turf, and the medics took their time removing him from the field of play.

Young was taken to hospital on Friday night for check-ups, and a relieved Falcons rugby director Steve Bates was happy to confirm that the injury is no more serious than concussion.

The Falcons travel to take on Gloucester at Kingsholm in the Guinness Premiership on Saturday, and as with any concussion Young will be subject to the usual cognitive tests this week.

All that will be considered later this week, though, with Bates rightly concerning himself solely with the fact that his talented young player escaped more serious injury.

"He was taken to hospital as a precaution and thankfully he's doing ok," said Bates. …
