DARTS WORLD Championship-bound Davie Prins won the third annual Alan Daniel Memorial tournament with a 3-1 defeat of title holder Glen Durrant.

The BDO World No 8 was in regal form at Durrant's home venue North Ormesby Institute, where 15-year-old Jordan Mathews showed his potential in reaching the last eight.

Durham right hander Prins checked out on 161 to beat multiple competition winner Paul Jennings in a thrilling match, and got the better of Mathews before defeating Grangetown's Peter Searle 3-2 in the semi-finals and Durrant in the decider.

Prins, who plays Wales captain Martin Phillips in his Lakeside opener in January, is now setting his sights on the pounds 750 Teesside Ranking Grand Final on December 8 ahead of his Frimley Green challenge.

He was also full of praise for the way Mathews played, with the youngster claiming big wins over Mick Barnett, Durham Super League player John Hardman and Paul Temke Snr on the way to his clash with Prins. …
