Charities Benefit to Tune of Pounds 14,000 from Opera Night

CHEQUES for pounds 6,700 each have been presented to two North East charities following a fundraising evening on Tyneside which raised almost pounds 14,000.

The money has gone to Macmillan Cancer Support and the Tynedale Community Hospice thanks to the efforts of Hexham-based accountant Patricia Arnold.

She organised the event, held in September at Sage Gateshead, which featured performances by some of the country's leading opera stars. Patricia was joined in presenting the cheques to the two charities by the concert's main sponsor, rural specialist George White whose company covered the event's operational costs.

This ensured that all of the proceeds from the ticket sales were donated to the charities.

Patricia, who lost her mother to cancer last year, was so impressed by the support that Macmillan Cancer Support and the Tynedale Community Hospice gave the family that she wanted to give something back. Her mother had been a long time admirer of soprano Rita Cullis and Patricia asked her to perform at the charity night. …
