Injury Lets Firebird Recharge Batteries; Geitz Puts Positive Spin on Test Squad Absence

ALLORA product Laura Geitz is putting a positive spin on the injury that forced her from the Australian netball team.

Geitz was knocked out of action in August when she broke three bones in her hand during a camp at the Australian Institute of Sport, only returning to the court when the Queensland Firebirds started their pre-season in November.

The injury sidelined her from a number of Test matches against New Zealand and Australia's tour of England, but the goalkeeper believes the break has not been all bad news for her career.

"Watching the girls take part in Aussie stuff against New Zealand and go away to England has been hard but it has been an opportunity to refresh," Geitz said.

"I feel good and refreshed and ready to go ahead.

"It was the first injury I have ever had and it put me out of quite a few Test matches.

"When it happens you are in shock and you feel like 'what do I do now? …
