Comets Take Heart from Sunshine Coast Clash

RUGBY LEAGUE: The win by Sunshine Coast in last Saturday's Queensland Cup final is an indicator of just how close the Central Queensland Comets came to a major triumph.

The Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles beat the Northern Pride 32-18 at Stockland Park, Kawana on Saturday in front of a sizeable crowd.

That may have been a convincing win by the Sea Eagles, but home supporters are only too aware that Sunshine Coast needed results to go in its favour after suffering defeat at Rockhampton in the first match of the finals series.

Comets coach Wayne Barnett is certainly aware of how close his team was to glory.

"Yes, they came here two weeks before the final and we beat them," Barnett mused.

Following the televised game, Barnett said he received numerous calls from his players as if realising that they had nearly completed the task of lifting the trophy.

Barnett said it was not something he would use to motivate the 2010 Comets as the players knew just how close they had come. …
