Stocking Was Key to Season Success

ALL but one of Northumbrian Water's reservoirs has now closed after an excellent season.

Only Derwent Reservoir remains open until the end of fishing on Saturday, December 12.

Fontburn, Grassholme, Hury and Scaling Dam all closed on November 30 and will not re-open for the new season until March.

All of these reservoirs have been averaging more than three fish per angler throughout the season.

For such huge expanses of water these figures are really impressive.

They show not only great thought as far as stocking locations are concerned, but also that levels of restocking at the reservoirs are well above what they were years ago.

This is all good news for the northern stillwater trout anglers. The Chatton Winter League competition is now fully booked up. The results from the second heat fished at the weekend were 1: Scott Fenton, 2d: Ian Ritchie, 3: Mick Yeoman, 4: Mark Wadds. A total of 72 trout were caught. …
