Parliament of World Religions meeting on

THE Parliament of World Religions is meeting in Australia for the first time.

Since 1993, a Parliament of World Religions has convened every five years. Previous events were in Chicago (1993), Cape Town (1999) and Barcelona (2004).

This year the Parliament brings the world's religious and spiritual communities, their leaders and their followers to a gathering where peace, diversity and sustainability are discussed and explored in the context of inter-religious understanding and co-operation.

This global inter-religious event sponsored by the Council for a Parliament of Religions, will end in Melbourne on December 9.

Church sets up Giving tree

THE Gladstone Seventh Day Adventist Church (situated at the corner of Tudman and Chapman streets, West Gladstone) has set up a giving tree in the foyer of the church. Collected non-perishable food will be made into hampers and distributed where needed. Everyone is welcome to donate items. Sabbath School starts at 9.30am and worship service at 11am each Saturday.

Island Sands community choir busy

THE Island Sands Community Choir has a busy round of Christmas singing - particularly at local churches.

The choir will perform at the annual carols night at Bray Park, Boyne Island, tomorrow at 6.30 pm.

On Sunday, December 13 they will sing at the Presbyterian Church service at the Tannum CWA Hall at 8am, and at the Gladstone Anglican Church at 7pm for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.

The choir will visit Domain Parklands senior citizens centre on Wednesday, December 16 at 6pm.

On Sunday, December 20, the choir will present items at the Gladstone Uniting Church Service at 9am.

The choir, whose members are mainly based in the Boyne-Tannum Area, was formed in 2002. The conductor is Carole Caird and the pianist Wendy Wootton.

Christian bookshop is open

CHRISTIAN Bookworld located at the Uniting Church is open every Monday to Saturday from 9am to noon till December 24. Bibles, CDs, DVDs, Christmas cards, gifts and calendars all available. For more information phone Tony or Ros on 4979 3720.
