Labor's Traveston Crossing dam has been a debacle of epic proportions.

While the communities and the threatened and endangered species of the Mary Valley no longer have the nightmare of the dam hanging over them, the devastation that has been wreaked upon families, farmers and businesses is shameful.

More than half a billion dollars of taxpayers' money has been wasted over the last three-and-a-half years on bureaucrats, propaganda, studies, reports, property acquisitions, site preparations and decommissioned infrastructure pursuing this folly.

Labor's blinkered quest for its unwanted and unnecessary dam has also led to poor planning decisions, including the $600 million upgrade of the Bruce Highway which the Federal Government is now building around the non-existent dam.

This longer and more expensive route does not follow the course the community chose.

Poor planning and bad political decisions led to all of this pain and anguish. …
