Matthews Is Ready to Sing the Blues

AFTER performing in Ipswich just two months ago, music icon Wendy Matthews has decided to sing in our city yet again next year.

The seven-time Aria Award winning singer/songwriter recently announced she would return to Ipswich in April next year to sing the blues.

The Canadian-born performer started her career busking across North America with friends at the age of 16 but she moved to Australia in the 1980s.

Glenn Shorrock, formerly of the Little River Band, asked Matthews to sign backup vocals on his Australian tour in 1983 and she decided to make the country her home after the tour finished, settling in Sydney.

Matthews performed in Ipswich alongside long-time friends and performers Shorrock and Doug Parkinson as part of the "Cool Change Tour" in September.

But this time around, Matthews is set to sing the blues at the Brothers Leagues Club as part of her Holiday Tour.

The 49-year-old will put her own spin on a set of classics from one of the world's greatest blues singers - Billie Holiday - before cracking out her catalogue of greatest hits and some older "rare gems". …
