Injured Rider Flown out; Woman Waits in Pain for Chopper after Fall off Horse

CLERMONT: A property worker near Clermont had to be flown to Mackay on Monday after she suffered a suspected broken pelvis in a fall from a horse.

The 51-year-old was bucked off her horse at Lestree Downs station about midday on Monday.

Lestree Downs, about 110 kilometres west of Clermont, is owned and run by the Salmond family.

The woman, who was in immense pain, was moved to the shade of a cattle truck as they waited for the rescue helicopter to arrive. The chopper landed about 2.30pm.

"The woman was conscious, but in a huge amount of pain when we arrived," said RACQ CQ Rescue crewman Darren Bobbin.

"CQ Rescue's Dr Caroline Heggie and intensive care paramedic Dan Basham administered pain relief to ensure the patient was in a reasonably comfortable state for transportation."

The woman arrived at Mackay Base Hospital Monday night in a serious but stable condition. She has since been transferred to the Mater Hospital. …
