Young Alex Ready to Take to the Ring

A YOUNG boxer from County Durham is looking forward to the New Year as he has high hopes for his boxing future.

Alex Chapman, a 13-yearold from Consett, is really excited at the prospect of his first ever fight in the boxing ring, which is scheduled to take place early in the new year.

Although any bout has not been finalised, Alex has been training hard with the Consett YMCA and Consett ABC.

He also conditions himself at home, by going running at least six times a week and eating healthily, something which he is keen to emphasise as he knows that to become a top boxer he needs to be physically fit, focused and have good stamina.

With a determined attitude, Alex, who attends St Bede's secondary school in Lanchester, dreams of representing England in a boxing tournament.

His ultimate ambition is to win a medal at the Olympics, though London 2012 will come too soon for him.

Alex names Carl Froch as his boxing idol and admits that he too would love to become a professional boxer and one day a world champion. …
