THE Mackay Region School Industry Links Scheme (MRSILS) won't organise students' work experience next year after failing to secure Federal Government funding.

The youth training association of 13 years will dissolve on December 31, however, Member for Dawson James Bidgood has ensured that Mackay's youth will continue to have access to vocational training.

The Federal Government has awarded $920,000 to two other Mackay organisations - Community Solutions and The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland - as part of its New Youth Attainment and Transitions Programs for 2010. MRSILS was unsuccessful in the tender process.

MRSILS executive officer Frank Hayes said the organisation received $157,000 in Federal Government funding last year and was disappointed it had missed out this time around.

Mr Hayes said it was the last thing that the five people working for the organisation, including himself and an apprentice, needed to hear so close to Christmas. …
