BEAMING smiles lit up the faces of these hospitalised youngsters when fairytale characters came to life before their eyes.

The cast of Cinderella took time out from their gruelling rehearsals to spread some festive cheer among children in Newcastle yesterday.

Stars of this year's pantomime at the city's Theatre Royal paid a special visit to young patients in the Royal Victoria Infirmary and made dreams come true.

The fairytale favourites, including the Ugly Sisters, Buttons, The Baron and Cinderella herself, all dropped into the Great North Children's Hospital to hand out magic wands, sign autographs and meet young patients.

TV actress Roxanne Pallett, of Emmerdale, who plays Cinderella, and comedy duo Clive Webb and Danny Adams, who play The Baron and Buttons, were among the cast members to spend time with the youngsters.

They visited wards one and six and stayed at the hospital for around two hours.
