Extreme Makeover for 2010

Article excerpt

IT'S said that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Sportz Central will undergo major floor refurbishment, which happens every 10 years. The floors are sanded fully back to bare boards and all nails punched and sealed, then the new line marking for basketball will be painted. All sports will now have the same colour lines to operate from on all major courts.

Court one will see a splash of colour with a red perimeter around the main court and new logos painted for Southern Cross Ten, Geoff King Motors and Sportz Central.

The new keys and centre circle will also be red and at each end of court one Coffs Harbour Suns will be placed in white on the red background just off the key areas.

We apologise for the long closure and will announce when Sportz Central re opens via our media partners, The Coffs Coast Advocate, Southern Cross Ten television and 105.5 Star FM.

Next year will bring new colour and more sporting activity to Coffs Harbour so remember to nominate in late January for competitions that are played here.

Merry Christmas

BEFORE we move on to our last week of activities I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people for a great 2009.

The Coffs Coast Advocate has allowed us to have this column so we can report on the activities being played here or events that are up and coming. We would like to thank them for this and also at this time thank and wish every one of our sponsors a Merry Christmas.

To all our users groups - Coffs Basketball, Coffs Volleyball, Coffs Vikings Futsal, Coffs Wheelchair Sports Association, Sportz Central Netball players, Sportz Central Multisports players, Coffs Home Schoolers, Sportz Central Masters and Daytime Ladies Basketball players - thanks for supporting Sportz Central during 2009.

The Coffs Harbour City Council and NSW Sport and Recreation should also be thanked for the grants that helped the extension finally be realised. Boy, they make the place look and feel a million dollars. Robin Snow Contractors and staff and Ross Colquhoun Architects must also be thanked for seeing this addition finally finished.

This new extension has seen Sportz Central grow as a regional facility and it is a credit to the Coffs Harbour City Council to have such a brilliant and well supported centre operate in our city.

To all the schools that have used Sportz Central this year thank you and merry Christmas to all the staff and the PE staff who help us.

Volleyball champions

LAST Thursday saw the winter volleyball competition culminate in tight, great games to decide the 2009 champions.

In Division One the ever consistent Bundicoots team took on the unpredictable Infotek 3000 and the first two sets went to script with Bundicoots winning the first set in a tight game 26-24. The hard hitting Infotek then dominated with a second set win 25-15 before rounding off a great final with a 25-13 third set win. …
