Swim Record Bonanza; Sibley Wins the Clifton Swimming Carnival

THE record books were almost re-written at the annual Clifton State Primary School swimming carnival last week, where 21 records were broken or set.

Principal, Darren Marsh, said the day was a huge success with participation at an all time high and many records broken.

Year seven student, Jack Mantova, broke seven records in the 13 years boys age group, including the 50m butterfly where he shaved 9.65 seconds off the old record.

His other record breaking swims included the 50m freestyle and backstroke, and the 25m for all strokes.

His younger sister, Lucy, broke six records in the seven years girls age group, including setting a new record for 50m breaststroke. Her records included the 25m breaststroke, where she shaved 8.75 seconds off the old record set back in 1999.

Lucy also broke records in the 50m freestyle and backstroke, and 25m freestyle and backstroke races.

Another member of the family, Sarah Mantova broke three records in the 11 years girls age group, including the 25m freestyle, where she swam 17. …
