Bridge Concern Raised; Serious Crash Highlights Issue

RESIDENTS in Placid Hills, near Gatton, have again raised concerns over the safety of a bridge following a serious crash this week.

For more than a decade, people living on the western side of Gatton have raised their concerns with council about Daveys Bridge, which connects residents in Placid Hills with the town.

On Wednesday morning an 18-year-old girl was transported to hospital in a critical condition after her car crashed off the bridge and down a 20-metre embankment, landing at the bottom of the dry creek bed.

The teenage woman, who lives in Placid Hills, was found by her family about 12.30am after she failed to return home.

Police said the teenager had failed to negotiate a left-hand turn when approaching the bridge and consequently landed at the bottom of the creek.

But Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones said relief was on the horizon for Placid Hills residents.

"A site for a new bridge is the problem but council is currently looking at land acquisition near Spencer Street in Gatton," Cr Jones said. …
