Surf Fest Making Waves at Cinema; Malfunction Adds Films to Program

Article excerpt

Byline: Patrick Williams

MALFUNCTION is looking to make big waves on the big screen next year.

The Kingscliff surfing festival will add three days of surf films to its schedule for next year's event.

The inaugural Kingscliff Surf Film Festival will run throughout the surfing event, with screenings of independent short and feature films as well as cult classics from established and emerging filmmakers.

Malfunction coordinator Sean McKeown said he has wanted to add films to the event's line-up for years.

"We've looked at having it in the park before on a large screen, but it just wasn't feasible," Mr McKeown said.

"I think it will bring in a mix of film buffs, die-hard longboard surfers and people just interested in surfing.

"Submissions are currently open and we're hoping to get a few local entries."

Categories including feature films, short films and producers under 25 years with prizes for the best films.

Films will be screened at Kingscliff Cinemax Cinema. …
