Community Stalwart Volunteers Willingly to Tie the Knot Again

GLADSTONE: Dave Burns has spent a lifetime volunteering and working to benefit the Gladstone community.

Now he has been rewarded in a huge way.

Mr Burns tied the knot with new wife Heather Courtney at the weekend.

The former councillor and active community member met his blushing bride while volunteering at the Harbour Festival.

"Heather has been friends with Judy Whicker for years and she introduced me to her while we were working at the Harbour Festival," Mr Burns said.

The small ceremony at Calliope Golf Club was even more special given Ms Whicker was the couple's celebrant on their big day.

Both now into their second marriage, Mr Burns said it was never too late to find love.

"It gets a bit lonely by yourself, but I couldn't ask for a better person in Heather," he said.

The pair had a lot in common, including their birthdays, he said.

The 66-year-old described his new wife as very caring.

"She still volunteers up at the Mater every week," he said. …
