Bichel Too Focused on U19 Cup to Miss Tests

Bichel showed he was not

missing international cricket too much.

The Ipswich former Test cricketer had no idea Shane Watson was about to make his maiden Test ton as the kids had first dibs on the only TV in the place.

Nor has he missed the weekly grind of club cricket with Brisbane Souths.

"I've been busy until just before Christmas," said Bichel, who is now coach of the Papua New Guinea cricket team.

"I haven't really missed it.

"I'm still heavily involved in the game.

"I'm still trying to make the most of my down time."

He acknowledges, however, what a unique and precious time of year it is when you are part of the Australian cricket team.

"It was a family thing for us," Laidley's former Australian fast bowler said.

"We all went to Melbourne, then on to Sydney .

"It is a special time in Australian cricket. …
