IN A great start to his 2010 New Year, an emotional and tearful Goonellabah man charged with assaulting teenagers in Nimbin pleaded last week for his freedom in the Lismore Bail Court.

Jed Vincent, 25, stated he wanted bail because his 'missus was about to drop' their second baby.

Vincent was charged with affray; three counts of assault; trespass; and destroying/damaging property in Nimbin at 2am on January 1.

Police accuse him of assaulting the teens in Cecil Street during a violent confrontation with the group in the early hours of New Year's Day.

When they ran to a nearby house to call the police Vincent is also alleged to have kicked a door and smashed a window.

"Can I say something?" Vincent asked the Court Registrar. "Can I please get bail, my missus is about to drop any time."

Vincent said that his wife had three weeks to go before she was due to give birth to their second child and he wanted to be there because he had 'missed out on my first one'. …
